Suspected rapist of 18-year-old girl will be charged today
THE Guyana Police Force is responding to an article published in the Sunday Stabroek (June 21, 2009) under the caption “Rape victim drinks poison over lack of justice, threats”.

Ex-Policeman on rape charge remanded



The article dealt with a matter involving the reported rape of an 18-year-old girl that occurred during October 2008, and to date the suspect has not been charged.

The Police wish to state that the matter was investigated and the file forwarded for legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution. The file was returned to the police with advice from the DPP to conduct further investigations in order to clarify some issues.

Upon completion, the file was subsequently returned to the DPP. It is now with the police and the suspect will be charged tomorrow.
