Armed thief
robs, beats Newspaper vendor Deo Beikky 49, of Adelphi, East Canje , Berbice, was beaten and robbed by an armed man Monday at around 08:15hrs. Beikky said that the incident occurred after he had finished selling newspapers in Gangaram and was riding out of the area. He said while passing a bushy area a masked man armed with a knife came out from the bushes behind him and snatched him off his bicycle. Beikky said the man sprayed a noxious substance in his eyes and beat him up. The thief then took Beikky into the bushes where he robbed him.
The bandit escaped with some $25,000 cash, most of which he had brought from home. The remainder was from customers. “All of a sudden a man with a mask come from back and pull me off me bicycle. He spray something in me eye and beat me up, then pull me in the bush and tek way me money,” Beikky said. The matter was subsequently reported to the Reliance Police Station and an investigation is being carried out.
