Thief caught red-handed at GPHC maternity ward
… Soundly thrashed
A Charlotte Street man, who is said to be a known thief, ran out of
luck yesterday after he was caught red-handed stealing
in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s maternity
ward.
Reports are that 42-year-old Nigel Holder was caught removing 51
surgical gloves from the Maternity Ward at
the hospital some time around 07:30 hours yesterday.
This newspaper was told that Holder was first seen by a cleaner removing
the items. The woman, realising that Holder was a thief attacked him
with a mop.
Holder reportedly attempted to defend himself when the woman raised an
alarm.
Reports are that after the woman raised an alarm, the man attempted to
run out of the hospital but fell, hitting his head. That gave persons in
the hospital’s compound ample time to catch up with him.
This newspaper was told that the man was reportedly beaten even as he
continuously proclaimed that he was innocent even as the security
officers took the surgical gloves out of a bag he was carrying.
Sources say that the man, the day before, went into the same ward, stole
a quantity of cotton wool and somehow managed to escape.
After reportedly receiving a sound thrashing at the hands of
public-spirited citizens yesterday, Holder was handed over to hospital
security officials.
He was subsequently taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit where he
was treated and handed over to the Police.
While being escorted out of the hospital by police ranks Holder
continued to proclaim his innocence.
He then uttered comforting words to his wife who turned up and fainted
after seeing her husband being escorted to the Alberttown Police
Station.
She had to be rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit for attention.
