… not missing American
The sight of a flock of carrion crows flying over trees near the Cheddi Jagan International Airport caused suspicious persons to contact police ranks, who discovered a man’s bloated and decomposed body in a clump of bushes a few yards from the airport fence.
There was initial suspicion that the victim might be American Kwame Rumel
Jobronewet, who disappeared almost two weeks ago.
But relatives who saw the remains told a team of detectives who visited the
scene that the corpse was not his. An uncle who spoke with Kaieteur News is
convinced that the 67-year-old man is still alive.
Police sources said that the body was found in a bushy area some 200 feet from
the airport fence. The victim, who was lying face-up, appeared to be that of an
African Guyanese aged between 40 to 50 years.
He was clad in a pair of blue three-quarter trousers, black vest and a cream-coloured
cap.
A multi-coloured towel was found some two to three feet from the body.
Detectives from Georgetown and Timehri who visited the area were unable to
ascertain how the man met his death, because of the advanced state of
decomposition. Kaieteur News understands that the discovery was made around
11:30 hrs yesterday, after residents, who farm in an area behind the Cheddi
Jagan International Airport, observed a flock of carrion crows flying over trees
in the area. Suspecting that something was amiss, some residents contacted
police at the Timehri Police Station, who visited the area with ranks from the
city.
Because there were reports that the missing American was seen heading to Timehri,
there was some suspicion that he was the victim.
However, after the body was brought to the city, some of Jobronewet’s
relatives were allowed to see the corpse and were emphatic that the remains were
not his.
The victim remained unidentified at press time.
