A man born in 1897 in India and who
migrated to Guyana at age 14
passed away on Monday at his home in Anna
Regina, Essequibo.

Neighbours and relatives of Gajadar,
known as "Gaja" said he complained
of felling unwell and was taken to the Suddie
Hospital where he was treated and sent home
but he died during the night.

They said he was 108 years of age. "Gaja"
was still active, even cooking and he had
worked as an indentured labourer. He got
married in 1940 to his wife, Poonch, who died
13 years ago.
Suruj, an only daughter of the marriage,
resides in England.
