Judge grants rape, buggery accused $500,000 bail
JUSTICE Yonette Cummings-Edwards granted Thomas Butcher $500,000 bail last Friday, on a petition presented by Senior Counsel Marcel Crawford at the New
Amsterdam High Court.

Man faces charges of rape and buggery

The petitioner, 36, of Lot 114 Sharples Street, Rose Hall, Corentyne, also in Berbice, faces charges of rape and buggery allegedly committed between September 2006 and July 28, 2007.

He had previously been denied pretrial liberty in a Magistrate’s Court after Police Detective Lance Corporal Keith Conway said, in an affidavit, that Butcher lives in close proximity to the teenaged virtual complainant who, like her relatives, reposed trust and confidence in him.

Conway claimed the accused abused the confidence over a period of several months.
